Industry Update January 2018


JC Penney has parted ways with McGarryBowen and named New York-based Badger & Winters its new agency of record. JCP spent nearly $300 million on U.S. measured media in 2016.

Expedia has awarded Saatchi & Saatchi its global creative business. The account will be managed by Saatchi & Saatchi London and Saatchi & Saatchi’s Team One office in Los Angeles.

Following a review, Bose has selected WPP as its global agency partner. The business will be handled by a custom-built team of WPP shops that will include Grey Group as well as digital agency Wunderman.

Following a review, ice cream brand Halo Top has appointed Wolfgang as its first agency of record.

Specialty tea brand Celestial Seasonings has selected Laundry Service as its digital agency of record.

Dish Network has launched a creative review. Incumbent Camp + King was invited to defend but declined to participate. Dish spent nearly $300 million on measured media in 2016.

Online travel agency Orbitz has hired Havas as its agency of record.

Agency Creative/ Producers

The Martin Agency has promoted Karen Costello to chief creative officer.

Nick Law, currently VP and global chief creative officer of R/GA, has been hired as Publicis Groupe chief creative officer and president of Publicis Communications.

Lisa Topol and Derek Barnes have been hired as co-chief creative officers at DDB New York. Topol and Barnes were most recently executive creative directors at Grey New York.

Pereira & O’Dell has promoted Rob Lambrechts to the role of chief creative officer, overseeing the San Francisco and New York offices as well as its satellite office in Cincinnati. Current CCO PJ Pereira becomes founder and creative chairman.

Bobby Hershfield is joining The Community’s New York office as VP/executive creative director. Hershfield was most recently partner/chief creative officer at SS+K.

Gallegos United has hired Dino Spadavecchia as executive creative director.

Publicis Seattle has parted ways with chief creative officer Andrew Christou.

DDB San Francisco has hired Ben Wolan as executive creative director. Wolan joins from Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

Maru Kopelowicz, Jeff Anderson, and Cam Hoelter have joined McCann New York as executive creative directors; and Holly Hessler has joined as a group creative director.

JoRoan Lazaro has been named executive creative director at BBH NY. Lazaro was most recently executive creative director at Havas.

72andSunny New York has promoted Justine Armour to executive creative director.

Jordan Doucette has joined Leo Burnett Chicago as EVP/executive creative director.

BBDO Minneapolis has hired Tim Mattimore as creative director.

TBWA\Chiat\Day New York has hired John Doris as head of integrated production. Doris joins from Saatchi & Saatchi New York, where he was most recently head of integrated production.

Barton F. Graf has hired David Cardinali as head of integrated production. Cardinali was most recently executive producer at Droga5 New York.


Rattling Stick has signed director Henry Busby for representation in the U.S. and U.K.

Ruffian has added director Thomas Bryant to its roster.

Director Dee Rees has joined the roster at Anonymous Content.

Director Michael Mann has joined the roster at RSA Films for commercial representation worldwide.

The Sweet Shop has signed Icelandic director Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson for international representation.

Unheard/Of has signed director Matty Brown.

Richard Gorodecky has joined the roster at Great Guns.

Matthew James Thompson has joined the roster at Backyard.

Stink Films has signed director Joachim Back to its roster for global representation.

Director Sophy Holland has joined the roster at Fancy Content.

Director Michael Illick has signed with production company Arts & Sciences for U.S. representation.

Station Film has signed directors Sarah Chatfield and Jeremy Charbit.

Stacy Peralta has joined the roster at Chelsea Pictures.

DapperTV has added sibling directing duo The Wade Brothers to its roster.

Saville Productions has signed documentary director Hubert Davis.

RSA Films has added Zach Merck to its U.S. roster.

Director Jason “J.M.” Harper has joined the roster at Hound.

Pulse Films has signed director James Marsh.

Durable Goods has signed director Ben Chappell.

Miky Wolf has joined Final Cut as senior editor, and Betty Jo Moore has been promoted to editor.

Editor Chrissy Rabe has joined the roster at BlueRock.

Cutters Studios has promoted Billy Montross to editor.

Cut+Run has promoted Lauren Hertzberg to East Coast managing director.

Visual effects studio Artjail has hired Lee Towndrow as head of 2D/creative director, and Emily Bloom as Flame artist. Both join from The Mill.

Mill+ L.A. has hired creative directors Ilya Abulkhanov and Lisha Tan.


72andSunny New York has appointed Jessica Monsey as managing director. Current managing director and partner James Townsend will remain in the New York office and transition into a global role. Monsey was most recently director of client services at Wieden & Kennedy Portland.

Alldayeveryday has named John Kaplan as partner and president. Kaplan joins Allday after a decade at CAA, most recently in the entertainment marketing division.
