Industry Update Week(s) of August 27th & September 3rd


Ford Motor Company has awarded Wieden & Kennedy New York its upcoming Fall brand campaign. The larger global agency review is still ongoing. W&K is one of three shops pitching in that review, along with WPP’s Global Team Blue, the incumbent, and Omnicom’s BBDO. Ford spent $1.22 billion on measured media across its brand portfolio in the U.S. last year.

Following a review, Columbia Sportswear has appointed McCann Worldgroup its global agency of record. The family-owned outerwear company will work with a team of agencies including 215 McCann for brand and creative.

Thorne, a maker of dietary supplements and at-home testing services for various health concerns, has appointed Droga5 as its first agency partner.

Revlon is replacing global agency partner Grey with an in-house shop, The Red House.

Minneapolis-based Mono has been awarded creative duties for MillerCoors’ Leinenkugel’s.

Following a review, Rite Aid Corporation has selected Havas North America as its new agency of record. Rite Aid Corp. spent an estimated $13.9 million on measured media in the U.S. last year.

Following a review, Essentia Water has selected Droga5 as its new agency of record.

Cathay Pacific Airways has awarded global creative duties to Publcicis Groupe, ending its 25-year AOR relationship with McCann Worldgroup.

Following a review, Droga5 has been awarded lead creative duties for United Rentals, the world’s largest equipment rental company.

Anomaly New York has promoted Olivia Edgren to senior producer.

Y&R New York has promoted Nathalie Brown, Eric Glickman, Margot Owett, and Fern Cohen to executive creative directors.

Chance Bassett has been promoted to VP/executive producer at McCann

Mother Los Angeles has hired Erin Goodsell as executive producer.

Matt Ian, previously executive creative director at Droga5, has joined McGarryBowen as chief creative officer of the New York office, filling the role left vacant by Matthew Bull’s departure last year.

Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners has appointed Matthew Curry its new chief creative officer. Curry was most recently group creative director at 72andSunny.

Jason Ambrose has been named executive creative director of R/GA’s Austin office.

Translation has parted ways with chief creative officer John Norman. Norman joined Translation in early 2014 as partner and creative chief. He will remain with the agency for the immediate future in a consulting role.

R/GA has made a number of new hires: executive creative director Noel Franus, creative director Bob Cohen, associate creative directors Fernando Salvador and Kevin Koller, and senior art director Brian Vandeputte have all joined the agency’s San Francisco office.

Engine’s Trailer Park has hired William Gelner as chief creative officer. Gelner was previously chief creative officer and managing partner at 180LA.


Tabletop production company Canteen has added directors Etienne Proulx and Charles Nordeen to its roster.

Mass Appeal has added director Katya Bankoswky to its roster.

Director Peyton Wilson has joined the roster at Bullitt.

Sune Sorensen has joined the roster at Cadence Films.

Ashley Bernes has been promoted to creative director at MPC New York, and Dirk Riesenfeld has relocated from MPC’s Amsterdam office to join the New York studio as 2D VFX Supervisor.

MPC’s LA studio has hired Patrick Ferguson as VFX supervisor.

Cutters Studios has promoted Marian Oliver to editor.

Postal has hired Peter Amante as Flame Artist, Sean Eno as associate creative director and Abigail Kim as designer and animator.


Free The Bid has expanded its footprint to include a colorist category among its representation of women directors, DPs, and editors.

Nancy Reyes has been promoted to president of TBWAChiat/Day New York, a new position for the agency.
