Industry Update Week(s) of November 19th & 26th


Following a review, has selected Anomaly as its U.S. creative agency of record. The agency will handle the account out of its New York office. spent over $220 million on measured media in the U.S. last year.

Following an extended global agency review, WPP has been awarded Volkswagen’s creative account in North America. WPP formed a new entity to handle the account. Agencies involved include Possible, David, Taxi, Geometry Global and Hogarth. It is unclear at this time which shop will lead the account for WPP.

PlayStation has launched a global creative review. The gaming company is looking to build a roster of agencies to handle its marketing work around the world. The incumbent, BBH, is not participating in the pitch process.

DDB has been awarded creative duties on the multi-billion dollar U.S. Army account. DDB will handle the work via a new entity called Team DDB, to be led by DDB Chicago. The incumbent McCann Worldgroup is protesting its elimination from the review with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Buffalo Wild Wings has appointed The Martin Agency as its lead creative agency.

Canada Goose has appointed Droga5 London to handle its global creative account.

Agency Creative/ Producers

DDB New York has hired Lance Parrish as executive creative director, and Katie Jensen and Ani Munoz as group creative directors. The three join from Grey New York.

Apple has hired two creative teams from Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO to join its in-house creative department. Mike Crowe and Rob Messeter are joining as creative directors on iPhone, and Caio Giannella and Diego de Oliveira as associate creative directors.

Grey New York has hired four new executive creative directors: Jeff Anderson, Qian Qian, Tristan Kincaid and Hannah Fishman

Minneapolis-based agency Mono has hired Brian Platt as creative director. Platt was most recently group creative director at Grey New York.

Cristin Barth has joined Allen & Gerritsen as director of content.


Pulse Films has signed director KLVDR for global representation.

Interrogate has added director Lee J. Ford to its roster.

Saville Productions has signed documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Bindery has signed Selina Miles.

Nexus Studios has added directorial duo Helvetica (Hans Vercauter and Francois Mercier) to its roster.


Jump has hired Therese Hunsberger as executive producer in its L.A. office.


David&Goliath has promoted Peter Bassett to managing director, integrated production & technology services.


Anomaly has named Karina Wilsher as its new global CEO. Agency founder Carl Johnson, who has served in that role since the launch of Anomaly in 2004, will transition to a role as chairman for the MDC Partners agency group.

WPP is merging J. Walter Thompson with digital network Wunderman. The resulting organization will be known as Wunderman Thompson and be headquartered in JWT’s New York offices. It will employ approximately 20,000 people in 200 locations across 90 global markets.

Plan A, the holding company formed this June by Untitled Worldwide founding partner and CEO MT Carney and former Droga5 CEO Andrew Essex, has added independent New York agency Badger & Winters to its roster.
