Industry Update Week(s) of July 15th & 22nd


Kroger, the largest grocer in the United States and the second-largest retailer after Walmart, has named DDB New York its first-ever creative agency of record.

McDonald’s has hired Wieden + Kennedy New York for an upcoming project. The assignment ends the chain’s exclusive relationship with Omnicom and comes as McDonalds completes a review of its U.S. marketing strategy.

Mekanism has been awarded creative duties on OKCupid.

Nautilus has appointed FIG the fitness brand’s new creative agency for its Bowflex brand. Those duties had previously been handled in-house.

Following a review, King’s Hawaiian has appointed Los Angeles-based Haymaker agency of record.

Ari Weiss has been promoted to the role of chief creative officer of DDB Worldwide, expanding his remit to include creative responsibilities of the global network.

Britt Nolan succeeds Weiss as chief creative officer for DDB North America. Nolan most recently served as co-president and chief creative officer of Leo Burnett U.S.

The VIA Agency has named Bobby Hershfield as its new chief creative officer. Hershfield was most recently VP/executive creative director at The Community New York.

Johannes Leonardo has hired new creative directors, Alice Blastorah, Ray Smiling and Dan Grech, and promoted Omid Amidi to creative director. Blastorah joins from Saatchi and Saatchi Los Angeles, Smiling from BBDO, and Grech from Goodby Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco.

Tony Kalathara has joined 72andSunny New York as group creative director. Kalathara was most recently creative director at David Miami.

McKinney New York has hired Alex Shulhafer as group creative director.

Deutsch L.A. has promoted Doris Chung to EVP, executive creative director.

Laughlin Constable has hired Vince Cook as executive creative director and Austin Scott as digital creative director.

Steve Chavez has been named chief creative officer at Garage Team Mazda.

MONO has hired José Acosta as director of integrated production.


Emerald Pictures has added industry veteran Lee Einhorn and MTV Award nominee Nathan R. Smith to its roster.

Prettybird has signed director Steven Caple Jr.

Aaron Ruell has joined the roster at Sanctuary Content.

Carrie Stett has joined the roster at Raucous Content.

Superprime has signed filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson to its roster for commercial representation in the U.S.

Stuart Parr has joined the roster at Taste.

Arts & Sciences has added director Emile Rafael to its roster.

Radical Media has added director Quentin van den Bossche to its roster for worldwide representation.

Hey Wonderful has signed comedy director Craig Brownrigg.

Pulse Films has added director Finn McGough to its global roster.

Valiant Pictures has hired Adam Zimmer as West Coast executive producer.

Deutsch L.A. has appointed Ivan Perez-Armendariz as EVP, head of experience.


Juul Labs has hired Perry Fair as its first head of creative marketing. Fair joins as VP, global creative and design.

Cory Berger has joined Grey as its first worldwide chief marketing officer. Berger joins from Pereira O’Dell where he was managing director.

FCB Chicago has hired Erika Pflederer as senior VP, managing director of the agency’s in-house production studio Lord + Thomas.
