Industry Update January 2020


Following a review, Groupon has selected TBWA\Chiat\Day New York as its creative agency of record. Groupon spent $395.7 million on marketing globally in 2018.

Real estate company Zillow has selected Fig as its lead creative agency following a review. Zillow spent $63 million on U.S. measured media in 2018.

After 23 years with Doner, beans maker Bush Brothers & Co., has appointed Carmichael Lynch new lead agency.

Following a review, StreetEasy has named Preacher its lead advertising agency.

Agency Creative/ Producers

Gerard Caputo is leaving his post as BBH New York’s chief creative officer to join Wieden + Kennedy New York as creative director.

Wieden + Kennedy New York has also hired Marques Gartrell as creative director. Gartrell joins from Deutsch New York.

The community New York has appointed Frank Cartagena as its first chief creative officer. Cartagena was most recently executive creative director at 360i.

Observatory (formerly CAA Marketing) has appointed Linda Knight as chief creative officer. Knight was most recently chief creative officer at Phenomenon. She replaces co-CCOs Todd Hunter and Tony Fur, who left the agency last year.

Fitzgerald & Co, newly independent after founder and chairman David Fitzgerald bought it back from IPG earlier this month, has named Ryan Boblett its new chief creative officer, a role previously held by Noel Cottrell for almost a decade.

Less than 18 months after returning to CPB, co-founder Alex Bogusky is leaving the agency.

Digitas has hired Nathalie Huni as EVP, head of design for North America, and Dwayne Koh as SVP, executive creative director of the West Coast region.

FIG has promoted Jill Landaker Grunes to head of production.

Lisa K. Johnson has been hired as director of production for Minneapolis-based agency Solve.

Smuggler has signed writer and director Lucy Forbes.

Prettybird has added Jared Knecht to its roster for representation in the U.S

Furlined has signed director Pensacola (Pau Dalmases) to its U.S. roster.

South African director Tebogo Malope has joined the roster at JOJX.

Nonfiction Unlimited has signed director Nico Carbonaro.

Director Kacper Larski has joined the roster at Supply & Demand.

Biscuit Filmworks has signed Ben Strebel to its roster in the U.S. and the U.K.

Rodeo Show has added Jose Terán to its roster.

Varsity (Ben McManus and John Marsico) has joined Stept Films for representation in the U.S.

Magnus Hierta has joined Brand New School as executive creative director.

Nice Shoes has launched an editorial division headed up by Adam Liebowitz (formerly of Go Robot!) as creative director and Tara Holmes as executive producer.


Brooklyn-based Hush has hired Matt Smith as lead creative technologist.


David Miami has hired Ricardo Honegger as managing director. Honegger was most recently managing director of Gut Miami.
